THE LODGE

HISTORY

Our farm came of a dream: to start a small business, involving agro tourism and History. My husband is a Land school graduate and I am a Sociology graduate.
We found and selected this land because it is located in the “Circuito das Águas Paulista” and there is a law regarding the use of the soil and the care with water there.
The facilities on the farm were built with recycled material, and we designed them to preserve the old architecture, traditions and culture of the Sao Paulo countryside. The great satisfaction to build this business was to teach our kids, our collaborators and neighbors that it is possible to transform a dream into reality, by linking the environment, history, culture and people.

The coffee crops were thought to meet low environment impact requirements. Our coffee genotypes were developed by the Agronomic Institute of Campinas (IAC), a century old research center which provides seeds that are resistant to the main coffee diseases. That means it is possible to reduce the use of agrochemicals in the area.
Some coffee strains of Agronomic Institute of Campinas, were named in honor of the language of the natives of Brazil , for example Catuaí means " very good " ; Obatã "strong leaf "
The farm is located in a site around 950 m high, where there is a good rain season in the first period of the crop culture and an excellent dry season during the end of the culture. Cold nights, warm sunny days and low moisture air produce an exceptional condition to harvest and post harvesting

Specialty Coffee

SPECIALTY COFFEE FROM ÁGUAS PAULISTAS

History, culture and tradition:

Coffee arrived in the region of Campinas- SP around 1835.Finding exceptional soil and weather conditions and a changing socio- economic situation , it reached the mountains and valleys of what is called the Circuito das Águas Paulista.

In 1872, the Mogiana railway company was founded to take the production to the Port of Santos, connecting the entire region. With the end of slavery, the production system changed significantly.

Immigrants from Northern Italy (Trento, Veneto, Piedmont, Lombardy) as well the Portuguese, Spanish, Arabs and other nationalities, all seeking opportunity in the new world , were welcomed in our region. They left their legacy in art, cuisine and music through their customs, skills and rich stories of immigration.

In 1887 the Emperor Dom Pedro II founded the Agronomic Institute of Campinas (IAC), which provides technical support for the development of the technological process of coffee.
This socio-economic context formed the foundations for the consolidation of the Circuito das Águas Paulista as a historical area of specialty coffee production.
